Cutting the Kiss

The new Australian production of The Boy From Oz with Hugh Jackman is just a bit less gay now, according to Aussie paper The Age, since Hugh will no longer be locking lips with a male costar. The kiss between Peter Allen (Jackman) and Greg Connell (played by Murray Bartlett) had been exciting queer audiences on Broadway, but the liplock was notably absent from the Sydney opening night performance last week. “Bartlett said he was not required to kiss Jackman during the Australian season, but added his scenes as Peter Allen’s gay lover were still sending out an important message,” the paper reports. “We just wanted to keep it very simple and very pure,” Bartlett said.
